Why can't I print a pdf to Ricoh?

If you are getting reports about, or are experiencing files not showing up at the Ricoh ("no jobs") or files that don't print and disappear from the SafeQ screen:

Envision and some other sites seem to be creating layered PDF files that won't print normally.

In ChromeOS there is an option when you go to print under “More settings” that says “Print as image.”
Check this box when printing and ChromeOS will flatten the file.
It should then print correctly.

Technical blah, blah, blah follows. Feel free to skip. :D

The Windows print dialogue/wizard appears to do this automatically (most of the time) so it's not an issue that pops up on PCs very often.

"Is somebody working on a fix for this?"
No.

Well … print as image IS the fix.

The problem is the way PDFs are constructed: scalable-ish, no data in white space, layered content like Photoshop files.

Sometimes they just don't convert to a print file very well.

The problem even exists with Adobe's PDF reader, and they created the format.

I found this blurb online. It doesn't really help much, but points out that it won't matter what PDF software is used; some files are junk. (technically speaking)

I usually say that some “layered” PDFs won't print and the print as image “flattens” them out.

Unfortunately, there's no way to know ahead of time which one won't come out.

Maybe users should check the box all the time ... the print jobs will be larger, but maybe it won't matter.

Hope this helps!
